Student Work Examples: Vase

Product designers find themselves producing objects, often with little regard for the ritualistic usage of these items. Yet even the most mundane products create a ceremony with the user. Shaving with a razor has steps, procedures; driving a car can be thought of as a dance; slouching on a couch with a channel changer begins to provide a certain cultural commentary about the ritual television imposes on our lives.

Roses are one of the most sought-after flowers, and are used to represent holidays, memories, and emotions. This project, investigating the presentation of an object of beauty, extends formal concepts to include a seemingly trivial function, but one rich with cultural and visual significance.
