I've enjoyed creating wheel thrown ceramics since I was ten; I had the privilege of studying under one of the best potters in the country, and learned both a precise technique and a precise philosophy. Creating ceramics is relaxing, and allows for a spiritual unleashing in a quiet manner. I've learned patience and precision, and I have gained a subtle understanding of form, weight and beauty.
Manipulating a craft creates a different dynamic than working on a client or customer based project; the work is an end in itself, and the constraints are bounded only by the imagination. Rather than the common discussion about user needs and business requirements, I've found a sense of reflection in the art, and have recently discovered that the artifact that is created is almost irrelevant - the time spent throwing is the valuable part, not the pot that remains when the work is done.
